Hasshub

Man living at the time of Exile and Return

Hasshub is a person mentioned in the Bible in Nehemiah 3:23. He is listed among those who were involved in the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem during the time of the Exile and Return. Hasshub is not mentioned elsewhere in the Bible, and this single reference is all we have about him.

From a biblical point of view, the significance of individuals like Hasshub lies in their participation in the work of rebuilding Jerusalem, which was a crucial task in the restoration of the city after the exile. The book of Nehemiah highlights the importance of each person’s contribution to the work of God, even if their role may seem small or their name may not be well-known.

In studying the Bible, it is important to remember that every individual mentioned, no matter how briefly, is part of God’s sovereign plan and has a role to play in fulfilling His purposes. While we may not have extensive information about Hasshub, his inclusion in the list of builders in Nehemiah serves as a reminder of the collective effort and dedication required to accomplish God’s work.

As we reflect on the account of Hasshub in Nehemiah 3:23, let us be encouraged to faithfully serve the Lord in whatever task He has entrusted to us, knowing that our labor in the Lord is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58).
